Spain: Repsol abandons drilling off Canary Islands

Repsol on Friday said it would abandon drilling off the Canary Islands, ending a year-long conflict that had pitted the Spanish oil company and central government against islanders worried about the effect oil extraction may have on the environment.

Norway: Det norske to tie back the Viper and Kobra discoveries to Alvheim

Det norske has decided to develop two small discoveries – Viper and Kobra – in the Alvheim area. The two discoveries are expected to produce approx 7,500 bopd into the Alvheim FPSO by end-2016.

UK: Environment Agency grants Cuadrilla environmental permits for Preston New Road shale gas well

The Environmental Agency announced Jan 16 it has granted Cuadrilla the environmental permits for its proposed shale gas exploration site at Preston New Road in Lancashire.

Denmark: Noreco reduces ownership in Xana licence

As part of a multi-lateral agreement, a wholly owned subsidiary of Norwegian Energy Company (Noreco) is reducing its ownership in licence 9/95 on the Danish continental shelf from 20.1 per cent to 16 per cent. As previously reported, drilling of the exploration well 9/95 Xana commenced in December.

UK: British Geological Survey announces UK’s first independent research to monitor fracking as it happens

The British Geological Survey (BGS) plans to expand its existing national environmental monitoring programmes by carrying out independent detailed research in areas of the UK that may see shale gas exploration and production.

Norway: Low crude price forces oil industry cutbacks in Norway

Norway’s oil industry will shrink this year and its decline could gather momentum unless crude prices recover, the country’s oil directorate said on Thursday. By the end of 2019, it estimated oil production would fall by 8 percent as low prices hinder new developments and make extractions from mature fields less cost-effective.

Romania: Serinus Energy’s Moftinu-1002bis well in the Satu Mare Concession onshore Romania finds hydrocarbons

Serinus Energy has reported preliminary results from the Moftinu-1002bis exploration well in Romania. The well is located in the Satu Mare Concession in northwest Romania and is the second of a two well 2014 drilling program in the concession.

UK: West Franklin Phase 2 brought on stream in the North Sea

Total has started gas and condensate production from the West Franklin Phase 2 project in the Central Graben area of the UK North Sea. The project will supply 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) to the Elgin/Franklin hub.
